COVID-19 PPEs DONATION TO THE PEOPLE OF SIRIGU

The District Chief Executive of the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly on behalf of management have distributed some thousand number face masks and sanitizers to residents of Sirigu at the Sirigu Market  in the Upper East Region today.

The gesture was to help the people comply with the Executive Instrument that makes the wearing of nose masks in the public place compulsory and adhere to the recommended protocols to reduce the rate of infection.

Hon. Gerard Ataogye urged the residents to demonstrate faith in the directives and protocols prescribed by health experts adding that, it was for their own safety and security.

He cautioned them on the existing law that criminalizes failure to wear the mask in public adding that the security task force within the district was mandated by law to arrest and prosecute persons flouting the law.

He also advised them to stick religiously to the protocols by washing hands regularly or using the sanitizers anytime they touch surfaces in the public place, adding they should refrain from handshaking and crowded places in order not to fuel the spread.

Interacting with inhabitants, it came to light that most residents had no sanitizers or face masks with a few having neither of them, which they attributed to a variety of reasons.

Most of the inhabitants who had no sanitizers complained of accessibility or lacked knowledge of places to buy them.

They expressed gratitude to the assembly for the gesture upon receipt of the items with some wearing their mask the minute they received them.
