Metropolitan Municipal District Assemblies (MMDAs) are mandated by the Marriage Act 1884 – 1985 to Register and Officiate Marriage. The Marriage Registry of the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Assembly began its operations in year, 2016.

This service is currently being handle by the Records Management Uniy  if the Assembly. The Unit renders services such as Ordinance and Customary marriages.

Persons who desire to marry under the Ordinance within the Kassena Nankana West District, one of the couple to the intended marriage would have to give notice of the marriage at the Marriage Registry of the Assembly for twenty one (21) days. The Notice is to afford the public the opportunity to raise any questions on the intended notice of marriage.

Information needed for the Notice are:-

  • Name
  • Age
  • Occupation
  • House no. of Husband & Wife

Couples from gazetted or licensed churches are registered and given a 21-day notice, which is later given to their Ministers at their respective churches for publication.

Upon maturity (after the 21 Days’ notice), either of the couples returns for the Registrar’s Certificate, which will only be issued if no impediment or any other lawful hindrance is raised by any one against the marriage within the 21 days of notice of marriage.

Couples whose churches are not licensed or couples who want to sign at the Registry of the Assembly are given a date, usually Fridays to come along with their witnesses.

A ceremony is performed; couples are made to exchange vows and rings and later append their signatures after which a certificate of marriage is presented to the couples. This is similar to what is normally done in churches.

Customary Marriage certificates are also issued to couples who prefer the customary to the ordinance. Couples are also given 21 Days period after which they are issued out with Marriage Certificate.
