A heavy rainstorm has ripped off parts of the roof of the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly block, forcing key officials to vacate their offices.
The Coordinating Director, Budget Officer, and Planning Officers have temporarily relocated after their offices were affected by the incident, which occurred on Thursday.
Staff of the Assembly acted swiftly to secure important documents and equipment from the damaged areas to prevent further losses.
District Chief Executive, Stephen Aeke Akurugo revealed that some structural works on the building were left incomplete, despite the contractor having been fully paid before leaving the site.
He is appealing to the central government to intervene and ensure that the outstanding works are completed to prevent further damage.
Mr. Akurugo also noted that the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has been duly informed about the situation. “I just want to use this opportunity to make a passionate appeal to the government that the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly suffered a rainstorm and it removed a major part of the assembly block. In the interim we have moved the affected officers to offices that are not severely damaged so that work can continue to go on”.
“Coming into the office as a DCE, I realized that there were some outstanding works that needed to be done but it so happened the contractor was paid and they just had to use it the way it is. I will do follow ups with central government to see how we can get rehabilitation and reroofing of the assembly structure and the completion of other necessary works to make it better for the administration of the assembly.” He noted.
